BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems
in the BMW 2 Series Convertible.

A plethora of innovative technologies guarantees the highest level of comfort and safety so you can focus on what really counts in the car – sheer driving pleasure.

Driving Assistant.

The Driving Assistant feature combines the camera-based lane deviation warning and approach control and person warning systems with light city braking function and even includes an attentiveness assistant. The lane deviation warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to unintentional lane changes at speeds above approximately 70 km/h with vibrations in the steering wheel. But if the lane change is deliberate, with the turn indicator having been activated, the warning will not be activated.
The ‘approach control warning’ with light city braking function detects vehicles, while the ‘person warning’ reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps with a warning symbol first being displayed. The symbol then begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response.
In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes, although this function can be limited by darkness and fog. An attentiveness assistant monitors the driver's steering response for signs of tiredness and displays a message in the control display suggesting the driver take a break in the event of irregular driving behaviour.

Professional Navigation System.

View the film about this feature.

Featuring a sleek design and superior range of services, the Professional Navigation System is seamlessly integrated into the BMW.  Including iDrive operating concept and iDrive Touch Controller, the system comprises the hands-free facility with USB interface and voice control, the Radio Professional with DVD drive, as well as a 20 GB memory for audio files. It also facilitates the use of Real Time Traffic Information. The built-in 8.8-inch LCD colour display with split screen function (main and supplementary screen) is designed for optimal readability.
With direct menu control buttons, eight functional bookmarks and voice control, the iDrive Touch Controller makes operation intuitive by allowing you to enter the address of your destination in handwriting on its touch-sensitive surface. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display that makes use of satellite images as a map background – with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights – navigation becomes an exciting visual experience.
  • The latest generation of the Professional Navigation System automatically updates its navigation maps on a regular basis in conjunction with BMW ConnectedDrive. As soon as updated material for the selected region becomes available, the update is transmitted wirelessly via the Internet using the vehicle's built-in SIM card – up to four times a year. No licensing fees or transmission costs, no registration, no login.
Updating map material for additional regions may be done manually. These updates can either be carried out at the BMW Service partner or conveniently purchased online in the BMW ConnectedDrive Shop and transferred to the navigation system via USB stick.

Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator.

Safety first: The Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator shows the current speed limit on the Info Display in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones. A camera integrated in the rear-view mirror detects relevant traffic signs. A control unit then processes and displays this information together with data from the navigation system. Other features in the car can enable other notifications on the display, such as variable speed limits during wet conditions or at certain times of day.

Park Assist.

Park Assist makes light work of even the trickiest of parkings.
Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces – even tight parallel parking spaces – while driving past at a low speed (below 22 mph) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars. When a large enough gap has been found, simply turn on the indicator and Park Assist takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also shows supplementary instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. Enhanced functionality includes driver support in spaces that are perpendicular to the road, ensuring greater parking safety and enjoyment.

Reversing assistant camera.

The reversing assistant camera enables viewership of the area behind the car in the Control Display while maneuvering and parking, and enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 12 mph like when parking.
Guide lines and coloured obstacle markings appear in the Control Display to show if the selected parking spot is big enough to accommodate the car. When the steering wheel is at full lock, the system displays Red turning circle lines and Green guide lines that adapt to the steering wheel movements.
The reversing assistant camera is automatically deactivated after ten meters or when the speed exceeds 12 mph. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, it also comes with a handy zoom function.
